About Premier Pain & Spine

Research Investigators

While all of seven of the Premier Pain & Spine physicians are involved in referring patients for clinical trial programs, the following physicians have taken an active role in participating as investigators on Great Lakes Clinical Trials' pain research programs:

Kiran Chekka, MD, is a Fellowship Trained Interventional Pain Physician and Double Board Certified Anesthesiologist. Dr. Chekka was accepted into the prestigious Pennsylvania State University-Thomas Jefferson University accelerated medical program directly from high school. After completing his medical education at Jefferson Medical College, he completed Anesthesia residency training at Northwestern University and then completed a pain medicine fellowship at Northwestern during which he served as Chief Fellow.

Dr. Chekka then served as an Assistant Professor at Northwestern University for four years. During this period, Dr. Chekka published original research and abstract publications in Acute Pain Medicine, Regional Anesthesia, and Chronic Pain Medicine.  Dr. Chekka presented original research for four straight years at the prestigious American Society of Regional Anesthesia and the American Society of Anesthesiology annual meetings.

As one of the first graduates of a multi-disciplinary pain fellowship, Dr. Chekka truly believes in a compassionate team approach to treating chronic pain. He focuses on functional restoration and improvement of quality of life as well as reduction of pain.

Arpan Patel, MD, one of the founders of Premier Pain & Spine, is a Double Board Certified Anesthesiologist and a Fellowship Trained Interventional Pain Management Physician. He and his partners are the Directors of the Pain Management Center at MacNeal, West Suburban, and Westlake Hospitals.

Dr. Patel specializes in the diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of all pain conditions. His particular interests include complex regional pain syndrome, cancer pain, peripheral and central neuromodulation, vertebral compression fractures/osteoporosis, and cervicogenic headaches. He has presented on various pain topics nationally and internationally.

Dr. Patel is a member in good-standing with the American Society of Anesthesiology, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and International Spine Intervention Society.

As one of the co-founders of Premier Pain & Spine, Dr. Arpan Patel’s mission coincides with that of the other physicians and staff in his group, specifically, to provide compassionate, innovative, and comprehensive care. He recognizes that pain medicine involves a multi-disciplinary approach.

As a result, he believes that coordination-of-care and communication between involved physicians is essential and remains the foundation for excellent patient outcomes. By integrating different modalities of pain-reducing therapies, Dr. Patel hopes to help his patients regain their functionality and enjoy life once again.
